Subject: Appeal for Clemency for Ms. Nimisha Priya, Indian National under Death Sentence
Your Excellency,
Warm greetings from the Humanistic Rights Protection Movement (HRPM), a human rights organization registered under the Societies Act of Kerala, India. We write this with the utmost respect to your esteemed office, seeking mercy and humanitarian intervention in the case of Ms. Nimisha Priya, an Indian citizen currently under sentence of death in the Republic of Yemen.
Background:
Ms. Nimisha Priya, a qualified nurse from Kerala, India, had come to Yemen to serve in the medical field with compassion and dedication. However, in the course of her employment and personal hardship, she became involved in a tragic incident that led to the unfortunate death of a Yemeni citizen. She has been tried and convicted under the law of Yemen.
We acknowledge the judgment of the honorable Yemeni court and respect your country's sovereign laws. Yet, on humanitarian grounds, we humbly submit this petition for clemency and a stay of the execution.
Grounds for Clemency:
Humanitarian Appeal – Ms. Priya is a mother to a young child in India, now raised by elderly grandparents. Her execution will cause permanent trauma to the family.
First Offense – No prior criminal record; served as a dedicated health worker.
Possibility of Diya (Compensation) – We are willing to follow legal mechanisms to offer compensation to the bereaved family.
Widespread Global Concern – International civil society and Indian citizens appeal for compassion.
Islamic Tradition of Forgiveness – We appeal to Your Excellency’s mercy in line with these principles.
Our Request:
Commute the death sentence to life imprisonment or lesser term.
Allow clemency under Yemeni law.
Permit reconciliation/compensation with the victim’s family.
With utmost humility and respect,
Johnson Pulluthi
State Chairperson – Kerala
